Support Centre Office

An office will be created to act as a support centre for local charities and clubs.  Secretarial services backed up with modern equipment will be provided to help with administration and events in Stonehaven. 

Community Radio Broadcast

Community radio group “MearnsFM” were awarded a license in 2007 by Ofcom.  They are now looking for premises to store equipment and to prepare broadcasts to the nearby communities of Newtonhill, Stonehaven and Laurencekirk.  It is recognised that the former radio station site would provide a good broadcast position. 

Drama Group Storage

From “Puss in Boots” Christmas pantomime to three act drama and comedy plays the local drama group “Ury Players” have excelled.  Over the years numerous people have been involved in their productions.  The group is now desperately seeking new accommodation due to an existing lease of a storage shed being terminated by the local authority as they plan to develop the site.

Internet Café

The importance of modern communications to every day life has been recognised by the steering group and it is the intention to incorporate facilities geared towards the visitor to the radio station. 

Pipe Band Practice

A lone piper is often seen to walk the tarmac around the radio station.  Melodies of “Flower of Scotland” and “Amazing Grace” are carried on the still summer air as the piper perfects his technique.  He is known to belong to the Stonehaven Pipe Band and it is hoped that community ownership of the radio station will assist this local band. 

Amateur Radio Club

Radio hams are known to exist in all parts of the world.  These dedicated people have a tremendous interest in this “hobby” and have to gain certificates acceptable to broadcast authorities prior to them getting on the airwaves.  Often working from a small room at home or in a loft the Morse code and voice transmissions of these radio operators is highly popular to fellow enthusiasts.  It is hoped that a radio club can be set-up at the radio station site.  A radio amateur from Inverbervie, near Stonehaven, has already been in contact to ask about facilities.
